OUR STORY

HOE Ministries was first imagined in November of 2006 when Tom Mustico was invited to Addis Ababa to visit a colleague, Dr. Frew Tamrat, about an upcoming 3-year teaching opportunity at ETC (Evangelical Theological College).

Originally planned as a meet-and-greet for the potential teaching position, Tom soon realized that God had other plans for his visit. During his 10 day stay, he was overwhelmed with sorrow at the horrific conditions of those living in and around Addis Ababa – particularly the condition of the orphans, widows, and the marginalized impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Something had to be done to help these people.

Returning to the US with the vision of bringing sustainable relief to the afflicted of Ethiopia, Tom quickly made arrangements to return to Addis with a plan. On that return trip, Tom met for the first time with Hanna Teshome, Director and Founder of Hanna Orphans Home, and established a trans-Atlantic missional partnership that still thrives to this day.

Thanks to God’s grace, old and new missional partnerships, and the faithful support of our donors, HOE Ministries has grown into a ministry that touches hundreds of Ethiopian lives every day… tilling the soil and planting seeds of hope, in Jesus name.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide ongoing support for the orphans, widows and destitute of Ethiopia as well as encourage individuals and churches to become effective witnesses and servants of God; thereby, influencing the world of the knowledge and saving grace of Jesus Christ.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven." Mathew 5:16

OUR VALUES

We believe that God calls his people to look after the afflicted and most vulnerable.

Fulfilling the unique call to care for the marginalized of Ethiopia, HOE Ministries is founded on the beliefs that:

Jesus calls his people to care for the orphan, the widow, and the oppressed (James 1:27; Psalm 68:5) – in doing so, we bring Him honor and glory (Matthew 5:16; Proverbs 14:31).

OUR VISION

Home to one of the largest populations of orphans in the world, 13% of children throughout Ethiopia are missing one or both parents. This represents an estimated 4.6 million children – 800,000 of whom were orphaned by HIV/AIDS (Unicef)

HOE Ministries envisions a future Ethiopian society where no orphan is without a home, no widow without care, and no sick person without a physician.

To help relieve the plight of our Ethiopian brothers and sisters, we’re raising awareness and gathering support from church communities, organizations, and individuals who feel called to pray for the ministry and/or contribute financially.
